Demonizing State Workers

There seem to be two schools of thought when it comes to state workers who are members of CSEA and PEF.

Thought 1 –

“Once you’re in with the State, you’re golden.  State Workers receive the Cadillac of benefit plans.   Even in the middle of a recession when everyone else is being layed off, they get raises and vacations.   They get so much more than I do.  It’s not fair.”

Thought 2

“They are always trying to balance the budget on the backs of the state workforce.  Do you know how much cash the State could save by getting rid of some of consultants they pay for?  They get so much more than we do.  It’s not fair.”

On Monday’s edition of The Capitol Pressroom, Ken Brynien of PEF, the state’s 2nd largest state workers union will join us to talk about the demonization of state workers, the current state of labor in New York and nationally, and a new study that PEF issued saying that consultants are overpaid.

Plus where is Kirsten Gillibrand?  (besides sitting next to Senator Schumer on a flight that turned testy?)   Bob Bellafiore and Steve Greenberg return to the show to discuss her political make-over and analyze whether or not it’s working for the former upstate House member.

And Jimmy Vielkind of the New York Observer and Kyle Hughes of NYSNYS.com will examine the political news of the day.  I hope you can join us.

Speaker Sheldon Silver and others

Today on The Capitol Pressroom we will be speaking to: NYS Speaker Sheldon Silver, Jimmy Vielkind of the Observer, Ken Lovett of the New York Daily News, John Sheehan of the Adirondack Council, and Steve Greenberg of the Siena Poll.
